150 words for the 1st 4.the Whitney Tuckerlesson 4 discussion 1COLLAPSEIf a company receives orders by email and has employees read over them and enter data for each one into a spreadsheet for billing this is a task. This process might have many errors because human error happens not purposely. According to winter (2018) one key difference that separates computer errors from human errors is the element of predictability. Computer errors are far more predictable than human errors, in part because they are systematic, and because the behavior of machines can be modeled (unlike that of humans). And then generating emails from the information put in the system that might not be inputted correctly. I think having a bot would help and be of assistance because yes but rarely there are computer errors when set up correctly will alarm you or make you alarmed when something unusual or an error comes up. Bots are according to cloud flare (2020) a bot is a software application that is programmed to do certain tasks. Bots are automated, which means they run according to their instructions without a human user needing to start them up. Bots often imitate or replace a human user’s behavior. Typically they do repetitive tasks, and they can do them much faster than human users could. If a bot will be used company’s should make sure that the software being used is set up and has had test ran to make sure it works properly. International director. (2018, June 19). They first pay employees to read the orders and enter data while that takes money to pay the employees and the employees’ time. They then have to pay more employees to send an email acknowledging the order. Meanwhile, these companies could have been paying the employees to do something more useful with their time to actually benefit the company. This is an example of where a bot could be used, a computer-generated system that automatically perform the tasks. Although factory robots have been around for quite some time, using robotics to automate work systems has been a recent update. For example, AT&Ts head data officer noticed that employees were performing routine task every day. He came to the conclusion that “software robots could automate rules-based work.” Steps were needed to take to write the software so within a couple of years, he pulled together 2,000 employees to organize and learn how to build the robots! Like the company in this prompt, bots could fit right into their company. This is because “bots now gather data on the sources of phone calls from customers and prepare reports on the network traffic” (Noe, 2018). If the same company wants to use bots to automate their own tasks, they should definitely plan to make these inputs happen so they can save time and money. This company would have to set up training to write their own software, and learn to build the bots. These bots could gather orders and automatically enter it into a spreadsheet. The benefits are endless: employees are utilized in other areas to help the company grow, and “empowers employees to shift the focus of their jobs from routine tasks to problem solving” (Noe, 2018). New York: McGraw-Hill Education.Joseph Derinaldi Lesson 3 DiscussionCOLLAPSEA man can be a victim of sexual harassment. More than 15% of recent sexual harassment claims have been filed by men (Noe, R., Hollenbeck, J., Gerhart, B., Wright, P. 2020). Harasser’s can not only be the victim’s manager or a manager in another work area, but can be your peer’s or co-workers as well. It is not limited to manager-subordinate relationships. Sexual harassment charges can be filed by the person who directly experiences the harassment, but can also be filed by those who may witness the harassment. Those who witness can feel a sense of uneasiness or may not be comfortable working in this type of environment. The best ways to discourage sexual harassment is to develop clear policies that indicate it will not be tolerated in the workplace, to provide proper training in identifying proper behavior in the workplace and for management to have a plan in place that acts quickly to protect the victims of sexual harassment as well as swiftly discipline those who engage in such acts. Sexual harassment is a form of discrimination in that certain behaviors can be perceived as treating individuals differently based on their sex. After receiving a complaint, the employer should immediately launch an investigation. Leaving the complaint unattended to for a long period time will only cause more tension and could potentially lead to turnover and possible legal problems. The harassment itself is illegal regardless if it leads to a layoff or reduction in pay. Quid pro quo does not have to be n play for it to be unlawful. Noe, R., Hollenbeck, J., Gerhart, B., Wright, P. (2020). Fundamentals of Human Resource Management, 8th Edition. New York, McGraw Hill EducationNicholas Smith Lesson 3 DiscussionCOLLAPSEI believe that it is false that a man cannot be the victim of sexual harassment. Even though the majority of victims of sexual harassment are women, it is possible for a man to also be a victim. The textbook states that “more than 15% of sexual harassment claims have been filed by men in recent years” (Noe et al., 2019). Sexual harassment towards men can come from women and in some cases from other men as well. Harassment does not only come from managers, and can come from others such as coworkers and even customers. In my experience of working in retail, there have been instances where I have witnessed customers making inappropriate and offensive comments towards employees. When it comes to filing sexual harassment charges, the person who directly experiences the harassment is not the only one who can file charges. Someone who witnessed the harassment may have felt uncomfortable and disgusted by the situation and can report it, which would help the victim if they end up choosing to report it as well since there would be someone to back them up. Instead of discouraging employees from dating each other, a company should ensure employees know what kinds of behaviors are unacceptable at work. The company should make it clear that there will be consequences for those who behave inappropriately. Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination because it is treating someone else differently because of their sex. Once a sexual harassment complaint has been received, an employer should investigate the complaint right away rather than waiting. If I saw an employer deciding to hold off on investigating a complaint, I would think that they do not care about the wellbeing of their employees. Sexual harassment is illegal no matter what, it does not take the victim being laid off or receiving lower pay to suddenly make it illegal.References: Noe, R., Hollenback, J., Gerhart, B., & Wright, P. This lets the users (operations managers, CFO, etc..) of financial information examine and compare the health of one company to another. Financial statements provide an evaluation of the degree to which the company or activity produces profit or financial gain, the availability of liquid assets or cash, and operational efficiency (Fowler, 2019). Therefore, there are a number of reasons why operational managers need to understand financial statements.First, the greater the number of transactions a company makes, in this case, a hospital, the harder it is for the company to measure its performance at any given moment. Putting together a financial statement forces a company to close the books and record the company’s actual financial position on a regular basis. Managers use these booked figures to monitor measurements like debt leverage, costs, sales, assets, and liabilities (Langabeer & Helton, 2015).Second, understanding the financial statements helps with strategy and benchmarking. Operational managers examine competitors’ financial statements and compare them to internal finances. This is practical in creating calculated options and strategies. Checking financial performance parallel to the market competition permits leaders to recognize areas of capability or weakness. It also helps in investment, financing, and operational decision-making (Fowler, 2019).Fowler, S. (2019). Why Do Managers Analyze Financial Statements? Health care operations management: A systems perspective. Burlington, MA: Jones & Bartlett Learning.Lesson 3COLLAPSEThere are three key statements that an operations manager should look at, these are the income statement, balance sheet, and the cash flow statement (Langabeer, & Helton, 2016). Its is important to understand the income statement because it measures a hospital’s profitability by tracking revenues, expenses, and margins (Langabeer, & Helton, 2016). Analyzing the income statement can help managers making decisions such as expanding or shutting down a department (Chen, 2020). It provides valuable insights into different aspects of a business, including the company’s operations, the efficiency of its management, the possible areas that may be affecting profits, and whether the company is performing in line with its competitors (Chen, 2020). An operations manager cannot make informed decisions without examining the balance sheet and the income statement (Langabeer, & Helton, 2016). The balance sheet is an important tool to analyze the company’s financial stability. Some of the reasons why the balance sheet is important for managers are when merger is being considered, as well as investments, expanding or considering asset liquidation to prop up debt (Ross, S. (2020). The statement of cash flows is a representation of all the cash inflows from ongoing business, activities, and investments as well as cash outflows for expenditures, labor, and activities (Langabeer, & Helton, 2016). This statement is useful for managers because it helps analyze whether activities are positively or negatively affecting the hospital’s financial position (Langabeer, & Helton, 2016). Information from the cash flow statement helps a business better manage its cash position, which is critical component of working capital (Langabeer, & Helton, 2016). Ultimately, an operations manager needs to know were the company stands in order to make the most adequate decisions that would contribute to success and eliminate any of the encountered issues.
